Automating a mix shouldn’t be a daunting task to do. My method doesn’t interrupt one’s creative process and I am able to make it sound like the way I wanted to for each part of the song.

My technique for this is using the Latch Preview mode, using the global automation mode, and a cycle action I built to make it all possible with a single hotkey. In the past, automation was a taxing thing to do which takes me out of the creative flow. However, it’s now something I enjoy doing. I used it on music mixing and mastering as well as in my video production.

Free 1208 SCS Channel Strip VST Plugin Released By 1208 Audio

The 1208 SCS is a freeware channel strip in VST and VST3 plugin formats which is available for free download via 1208 Audio. It is compatible with 64-bit digital audio workstations on Windows.

The current version of 1208 SCS has a compressor, a 4-band parametric equalizer with a high-pass filter, a mixer module, and a matrix section for routing adjustments. At present, its components are pretty basic. There is no major advantage in using 1208 SCS instead of your favorite EQ and compressor plugins. Since this is just a freeware plugin, give this a try and probably you’ll end up using it

Review: RØDECaster Pro

The RØDECaster Pro is a fully integrated podcast solution that’s versatile, voice-focused, tactile, self-contained and convenient.

If you’ve ever tried to conduct interviews or record multi-host podcast shows, it can be a nightmare to use a standard mixer to route and record it all so that you can mix it all properly.

This device was designed for podcasters, but I can see a clear use case for anyone who conducts multi-person interviews through audio or video.

The back has four XLR inputs in the back for microphones. It also has a USB input/output for your computer, a minijack for a phone, and a screw-lockable power cord.

There’s also a wireless Bluetooth input. For output, there are two 1/4” L/R jacks and four separate labeled 1/4” headphone jacks, each with a separate volume knob. There’s also an unlabeled minijack at the front which can be controlled with the #1 volume knob.

Review: Korg Gadget 2

Matt Vanacoro said he had a great time with Korg Gadget 1. He says that honestly he never really ‘turned to it’ as a way to get work done. With Gadget 2, though, that is no more. He absolutely loved it. So much better than the original.

Korg Gadget 2 is an awesome way make great sounding music quickly, and it’s a blast.

There are 6 new focused instruments included with Gadget 2, and 4 of them are available now. The color scheme has been tweaked, as has the user interface. Everything is placed in a way that makes sense, and you can feel like a ‘pro’ after only 20 minutes of tinkering around in the interface.
